Yemen’s Prime Minister Ahmed Ben Dager warned Southern Council leaders against violence in a rally, which is due to take place on next Friday.
The prime minister warned that any rally will directly challenge the recognized government of President Abd Rabbuh Mansur Hadi and ultimately serve the interests of the Houthi armed group. The rally is being organized to call for an independent southern Yemen.
Hadi recently sacked UAE-backed officials in the southern city of Aden, including governor Aidarous al-Zubaidi, who has now called for rallies.
Observers have warned that any armed confrontations will erupt during or after Friday’s demonstration in Aden on July 7, amid great tension and serious indications of imminent outbreaks of violence.
